Podcasting Tips for Beginners: Lessons Learned from the First 10 Episodes

Hey friends! I just wrapped up another solo episode for the podcast Lessons from Your Hairstylist and I can’t wait to share the details with you! This week, I decided to reflect on the first ten episodes of the podcast and the valuable lessons I’ve picked up along the way. It felt like a good time to take a step back and share what’s been working and what I’ve learned since I launched this little passion project.

Join Lessons from Your Hairstylist host Sarah Crews as she reflects on the first 10 episodes of Lessons from Your Hairstylist, sharing key takeaways on clarity, storytelling, audience connection, and the behind-the-scenes growth that comes with launching a podcast.

Staying Concise: Keeping it Clear and Engaging

As I talked through my experiences, I focused on the importance of being concise. I’ve found that my listeners appreciate it when I get straight to the point. So, I’ve been working hard to keep things clear and engaging. It’s all about respecting your time, right? One of the best tips I picked up was to outline my episodes beforehand, which has helped me stay on track and keep the conversation flowing.

Tech Tips for Smooth Recordings

I also shared some tech tips that have saved me from potential disasters. For instance, I learned the hard way that putting my phone on airplane mode during recordings is a must! A random call can mess up everything, from audio to syncing. And let’s not forget about keeping my workspace tidy—no more wrestling papers near the microphone!

Talking about investments, I mentioned how I decided to spend a little on quality recording software. I use Riverside FM, which has made a huge difference in my recording quality and workflow. It’s not about breaking the bank but rather making smart choices that elevate the overall experience.

The Power of Support: Virtual Assistant Help

One of the most important lessons has been the value of support. I decided to bring in a virtual assistant early on, and it was a game-changer! She helped streamline everything from scheduling to promotion, allowing me to focus more on creating content. If you’re interested in starting a podcast, I highly recommend seeking help when you can!

Embracing Imperfection: Authenticity Over Perfection

I also touched on embracing imperfection. Let’s be real: perfection can be paralyzing. I’ve learned that being authentic and relatable resonates much more with my audience than trying to present a polished facade. This realization has encouraged me to share more personal stories, which has truly strengthened my connection with listeners.

Another highlight of this episode was discussing the power of having guests on the show. It not only diversifies the content but also pushes me to plan ahead, which has been a huge help! I love having those deep conversations with different experts in the beauty and wellness fields, and I genuinely believe they bring value to our listeners.

Introducing “Cut It or Keep It”

Lastly, I introduced a new segment called “Cut It or Keep It,” where I’ll pose fun questions to my guests about beauty trends, wellness practices, or hot topics related to my guests’ zone of genius. It’s a lighthearted way to engage everyone and keeps the conversations lively.

If you want to dive deeper into these lessons, you can catch the full episode on Apple, Spotify or YouTube. And if you’re interested in exploring the world of podcasting yourself, I’ve mentioned some resources and tools that could be helpful along the way.
